Building Wooden Trestles And Bridges
Why build wooden trestles? The short answer is lack of availabilty. While there may be kits for smaller scales using dowels and stripwood, we found nothing available for garden scale. But how to withstand the elements for any length of time? We used a dark wood stain mixed with linseed oil to simulate creosote. It looked like brand new creosote treated lumber at first. Five years later, it looks like weathered creosote treated lumber. A quick brush with a fresh mixture has it looking brand new again!
We started with the trestle bents and templates. We progressed to approach trestles for a bridge. Then we built the bridge.
